Following BP’s Macondo well blowout, E&P activities in the Gulf of Thailand have heightened environmental concerns. To address these concerns, PTIT organized a CEO Dinner Dialogue on “Lessons Learned from the BP Oil Spill and Its Aftermath” on 13 September 2010 at Grand Hyatt Erawan Residence, Bangkok. The talk facilitated exchange of information and strategies, and addressed issues being confronted by upstream industry players; government officials & CEOs from E&P operators/service providers in the Gulf of Thailand. Experts Prof. Owen L. Anderson and Prof. John S. Lowe provided background information and opinions.
On 10 September 2010, PTIT arranged a 1-day field trip for students from LL.M. Business Law International Program, developed in association with the Faculty of Law of Chulalongkorn University, Chandler & Thong-ek Laws Offices Ltd., and PTIT. The trip visited the PTT Gas Separation Plant and Map Ta Phut Petroleum and Petrochemical Complex in Rayong. The visit aided students’ understanding of petroleum and petrochemical plant operations according to the course content.
PTIT organized a seminar on “Flare Minimization for Environment” at the Purimas Resort and Spa Hotel, Rayong, on 8 September 2010. This talk presented the technologies of flaring, and flare minimization options. Flaring system specialists from John Zink Company provided the basics of flare system design for safety and peak performance, advantages of various flare systems, as well as benefits and economic comparisons. Practical experiences with ground flare systems and flare gas recovery systems were further addressed.
On 4-6 September 2010, PTIT organized “Introduction to Petroleum and Petrochemical Businesses” at Shinawatra Tower 3. The course aimed to provide necessary fundamental knowledge of the petroleum and petrochemical industries. Participants received information on crude sources and delivery, the distillation process and petroleum products through to markets. Integration to petrochemical value-added process was also addressed. Speakers included notable personnel from the E&P, refining, petrochemical industries and PTIT.
A seminar on “Integrated Health Management System - IHMS” was held at the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, Rayong, on 3 September 2010. The seminar was held to introduce the Code of Practice on IHMS, developed by the Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Task Force under the Refining and Petrochemical Industry Standing Committee, PTIT. The seminar followed the theme “Healthy Workplace and Healthier People”, delivering valuable know-how on how to implement IHMS.
