IPTC Rescheduled to early February 2012  

The International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) Board of Directors, in consultation with the Host Organisation, PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Ltd. (PTTEP), has decided to postpone the 2011 IPTC due to the current flooding in Thailand. 

While we were extremely reluctant to postpone this important conference, our priority is always the wellbeing and safety of our conference delegates, visitors and exhibitors.  Floods that have engulfed a third of the country, and much of suburban Bangkok, are moving closer to the centre of the capital city, and are severely disrupting transport, and affecting electricity, water supplies and the availability of local personnel and materials.

After careful consideration, it has been decided that the 5^th edition of IPTC will be rescheduled to early February 2012, but will still be held at the Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World. The revised dates will be announced following input from the Host Organisation.

IPTC is contacting authors, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, registered conference delegates, teachers and students individually on the details regarding the rescheduling of the event.

Oil Reserves to Be Boosted More Than 60% Under Plan  

The Energy Ministry plans to increase Thailand’s oil reserves by an additional 11 days to enhance the country’s energy security against possible oil disruptions. Pichai Naripthaphan, Energy Minister stated that as 85% of oil is imported, we should do whatever we can in case there is an emergency such as the current flooding. In addition, he added that sending oil through pipelines will be one of the ministry’s main goals, eventually replacing road transport.

Thai supplies unaffected by Singapore fire  

A fire that disrupted production at Shell’s largest refinery in Singapore will not affect supplies of petrol and other products to Thailand in the short term. Anusorn Sangnimnuan, President of Bangchak Petroleum Plc stated that although a huge capacity of Shell in Singapore was shut down, the impact on regional refined oil supplies is unlikely high as the ongoing financial crisis in Europe and the US has tempered demand.

ในระหว่างการประชุมรัฐมนตรีพลังงานอาเซียน ครั้งที่ 29 Asean Energy Business Forum 2011 นายพิชัย นริพทะพันธุ์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงพลังงาน พร้อมกับบริษัท ปตท. จำกัด (มหาชน) ได้ร่วมหารือกับองค์กรกลุ่มประเทศสมาชิก ซึ่งเน้นเป้าหมายเรื่องความเชื่อมโยงด้านพลังงานในอาเซียน โดยวางกรอบการทำงานร่วมกัน 2 โครงการใหญ่คือ โครงการ 1 การเชื่อมโยงท่อส่งก๊าซธรรมชาติอาเซียน (Tran Asean Gas Pipeline: TAGP) โครงการ 2 การเชื่อมโยงสายส่งไฟฟ้าอาเซียน (ASEAN Power Grid: APG) รวมทั้ง ยังมีการร่วมมือจัดทำนโยบายการใช้เชื้อเพลิงเพื่อผลิตกระแสไฟฟ้า (ASEAN Fuel Policy For Power Generation) เพื่อเสนอหลักเกี่ยวกับความมั่นคงและยั่งยืนด้านพลังงาน
